Kawaii Smartie Jello Shot from My Jello Americans on Vimeo.

Kawaii Smartie Skulls!

These skulls are similar in appearance, but different in technique to the Frida Kahlo Sugar skull made earlier in the year, and-are-our third skull themed jello shot.

Here are past jello shots related to halloween:

  1. Oh My God. I can't believe you don't have thousands of comments on this post. Amazing!! I just ordered the molds from Amazon to be here by Friday, and am going to make these for our annual Halloween party!

One question -What did you use to color the eyes and decorate the faces? I couldn't catch it. Thank you for the recipe!

    1. I am wondering the same thing too!

  2. Love the skulls. Nice job. What is the music in the back ground? Kinda cool.

  3. Becca,
White gel food coloring from the cake decorating section of a cooking store (Fante's in south philly). It tends to separate and rise above any colors you mix with it.

Make sure you do a test run with the recipe. I don't know if it's a climate thing, a refrigerator thing, or maybe I over microwave the gelatin sometimes, but sometimes the firmness isn't quite right (even if you have your ratios exactly measured) You can see in the video the front row, furthest from myself, are the ones I made on camera. They were the right texture. The second row, was a test batch that were too firm. You can kind of tell as I lay them down they were too rubbery.

The music in the background is Sugar Water by Cibo Matto. They're name means "crazy food", which seemed appropriate.

  4. Thank you, Cory! I'm doing a few test batches tonight!

I can't believe this post only has 3 comments! I have heard a bunch of great feedback from people I have sent it to :)

  5. They look really cute, but how do they taste? they have to be delicious for all that work.

  6. C mini! they tasted like smarties, but with a gooey texture not a chalky one! very tart!!

  7. Sounds good, I'll give it a whirl. Thanks for the speedy response!
